Demons Diamond Jubilee Team

As part of the Demons 60th anniversary year celebrations, a dinner was held at the South Oakleigh Club on Friday the 26th of October, 2007. Along with the many past and present players, administrators and friends, the Club decided to name a Diamond Jubilee Team, to honor those players who have contributed to the success & longevity of the Demons Ice Hockey Club Inc. as a player & administrator.

We asked those present to cast their votes from a selected group of nominees who meet a specific selection criteria. On completion of the votes being tallied, the following is a reflection of some great players who have graced our different teams during our early years through to the present day.

The Diamond Jubilee Team as selected is

First Line:

Club Legends

During the evening the Club also honored two greats by awarding them the highest Honor of Club Legend

These two member are: Russell Jones & Michael Smits Snr.

Some short notes regarding each selected Team Member/Legend are listed below:

Noel McLoughlin	Played 1955 -1964, for 107 games, Goalkeeper for the Australian Olympic Ice Hockey Team, 1960 Squaw Valley USA & World Championships Goalkeeper Japan 1963. First player to be awarded 2 x VIHA Snr-A Presidents Medals 1959 & 1961. Awarded Demons I.H.C. Inc Life Membership 1964
Paul Watson “Jaffa”	Played 1969 -1973, 1977 -1978, for 127 games Awarded the Alan Currie Trophy 1969 Awarded the Alan Coleman Trophy 1996 &1999 Coached various Junior Demons teams over the last 10 - 15 years.
Jon Moses	Played as a Junior 1981 - 1989, for 232 Junior games Played Senior 1990 - 2006, for 222 Senior game, Awarded the Alan Currie Trophy 1986, 6 times Demons Snr - A MVP. Snr - A Captain 1992 - 2002 Awarded Life Membership 1997
Russell Jones	Played 1946 - 1949, 1954 - 1964, for 143 games Player for the Australian Olympic Ice Hockey Team, 1960 Squaw Valley USA & World Championships Team, Japan 1963. First Snr - A Coach, 1946-1949, 1954-1957, 1959-1964 for a total of 14 years. Awarded Life Membership 1964. *Selected as one of our first Club Legends 2007.*
Michael Smits Snr “Smitsy”	Played as a Junior 1977-1981 for 80 Junior games. Played Senior 1980 - 1982, 1984 - 2007 for 412 games Vice President 2000 - 2003 Awarded the Alan Currie Trophy 1980 Awarded the Alan Coleman Trophy 1998 Awrded VIHA Snr - B MVP 2001 & 2002 Awarded Life Membership 1997 *Selected as one of our first Club Legends 2007*
Paul Rice “Bubbles”	Played 1977 - 2002, for the most Senior games totaling 484. The first player to play 400 games for the Demons Awarded the Alan Coleman Trophy 1989, Snr - B MVP 1979 & 1982, Snr - C MVP 1995, 1998 & 2001 Committee member 1980 - 1991, 2000 - 2003 Treasurer 1988-1991. Awarded Life Membership 1992.
Kerry Timmins:	Played 1964 - 1983, for 314 games, the first player to play 300 games for the Demons Awarded the Alan Coleman Trophy 1979, Demons Snr - A MVP 1974 & Snr - B MVP 1969 & 1978, Long time committee member. Awarded Life Membership 1978.
William Buck “Billy”	Played 1966 - 1973, for 145 games, the most as a Goalkeeper for the Club, Snr - B MVP 1970, VIHA Snr - B Best Goalkeeper 1970 Alan Currie Trophy 1971
Carl Fevola	Played 1970 - 1974, 1987 - 2005, for 441 games Awarded the Alan Currie Trophy 1970 Demons Snr - B MVP VIHA Snr - B Highest Points Scorer 1987
Rick Skrzelinski	Played 1986, 1988 - 2007, for 367 games Snr - B Co-ordinator / Coach 2000 - 2007 Demons Snr -B MVP 1990,1991,1992 & 1996
Alan Coleman	Played 1955 - 1973, for 226 games 5 time Demons Snr - B Highest Points Scorer Oustanding Clubman over 19 years, hence the Trophy named in his Honor which was first awarded [1975] upon his untimely death in 1974. Awarded Life Membership Posthumously 1975.
James Brett “Jimmy”	Played 1949 - 1971, for 250 games, the first player to play 250 or more games Demons Snr - A Captain 1960 - 1964 Demons Snr - A MVP, 1959, 1960, 1963 & 1965 The Jimmy Brett Memorial Shield Snr - B Most Inspirational first awarded 1983
Rod Johns	Played 1986 - 1987, 1992, 1996 1998 & 2002, Coached 1986, 1994 - 2006, 6 Time Snr - A Premiership Coach, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2003 Awarded the Alan Coleman Trophy 1997, Demons President 1998 - 2006
