DeFris Tournament
For those of you who were not aware, Victoria is hosting this year’s DeFris Tournament, and the Demons are represented at several levels. Featuring on defence for this year’s team are Jake Gorman and Kevin Dow, both veteran’s of last year’s silver medal team. They will be looking for revenge over South Australia. In an unusual twist, our Junior B goaltender, Linus Kemppainen, will be stepping in as an emergency goaltender for the ACT team! The regular ACT goaltender is not able to make the trip. In addition to all that, the Victorian DeFris coach for this year is our own Senior A coach, Simon Holmes. He is under a great deal of pressure to win after Tom Yawney brought home gold as this year’s Tange coach. And of course, at the more mundane level, Lisa Gorman and I feature as the co-Directors of the Tournament, so if Victoria starts to struggle, we can just ‘adjust’ the rules!
I encourage you all to come out and support the kids (and Simon). This is the first major tournament held in Victoria for a while and we want to make it a success. The round robin games will be played Wednesday, 22 August to Friday, 24 August (a detailed schedule is attached) and the Bronze and Gold medal games will be on Saturday, 25 August at 4:15pm and 5:45pm respectively.
